Earth Addresser 2.4

July 29, 2010

earthlingsoft today released version 2.4 of Earth Addresser, a Mac OS X application that looks up addresses from the user’s Address Book and creates a KML file with those addresses. KML files can be viewed in Google Earth to see the homes of friends right there on the globe.

The updated version offers finer control about the content of the “bubble” appearing for an address in Google Earth. In particular, the textual address as well as the address label can be omitted from the resulting file. Likewise the address label and items labelled as “Old” in Address Book are omitted for a cleaner look.

Further improvements include a better use of new features in Mac OS X 10.5 and 10.6: Earth Addresser 2.4 can run as a 64-bit binary, supports Sudden Termination, and behaves better when quit while it is busy. Memory management has been improved to reduce memory usage when processing large amounts of addresses and a potential failure at grouping addresses has been fixed.

Earth Addresser was first published by earthlingsoft in 2007 and is available in English, German and French. It aims to join the rich data available in Mac OS X’s Address Book with the rich visual environment provided by Google Earth: Earth Addresser allows users to choose a group of addresses in the Address Book, looks up their coordinates, and creates a KML file from those. The KML file can then be opened in Google Earth and will provide a placemark for each address, marking those with a photo of the person living there, if available in the Address Book.

Use cases of Earth Addresser start with the desire to map the homes of all friends and include more ambitious projects like mapping all handicapped parking spots in a city or the addresses of all members in one’s high-school class.

Earth Addresser is provided free of charge. earthlingsoft welcome donations and user comments.

Earth Addresser 2.4

29. Juli 2010
