Words I learned or figured out recently: Instantaneity – it's obvious what it means, but I wasn't too sure how get from instantaneous to the corresponding noun. Theramin or Theremin – the name of the musical instrument used by the band Dionysos which I had never seen before and neither knew the name of when I saw the band play in January. Talking about music-related words, I also learned that the MC sometimes found in band names is shorthand for Master of Ceremonies. I had wondered about that one for a while.
Two more words come from the subtitle of John Gruber's Daring Fireball. Punditry, indicating both criticism and the writer's wisdom, and Curmudgeonry from the ranting old man department (at least according to some sources). I had already what the word curmudgeon was about when listening to Adam Green's Times are bad last year which is considered like a mediocre performance of a lost Velvet Underground b-side at Anti-Folk karaoke night
by some.
