Words I learned or figured out recently: Instantaneity – it's obvious what it means, but I wasn't too sure how get from instantaneous to the corresponding noun. Theramin or Theremin – the name of the musical instrument used by the band Dionysos which I had never seen before and neither knew the name of when I saw the band play in January. Talking about music-related words, I also learned that the MC sometimes found in band names is shorthand for Master of Ceremonies. I had wondered about that one for a while.

Two more words come from the subtitle of John Gruber's Daring Fireball. Punditry, indicating both criticism and the writer's wisdom, and Curmudgeonry from the ranting old man department (at least according to some sources). I had already what the word curmudgeon was about when listening to Adam Green's Times are bad last year which is considered like a mediocre performance of a lost Velvet Underground b-side at Anti-Folk karaoke night by some.

The times are bad,
and all the time you're feeling sad
and people are laughing
telling you to go away;
and your feet are trudgin'
you're always acting like a curmudgeon
and I know, I know, that it's hard.

But it's hard to walk around
feeling like a circus clown.
Grab a big baton
and twirl it like a magic wand
because the cards are dealt
and everything is deeply felt.
And I know, I know, that it's hard.

And the people that you love
are attacking you from above.
And everyone that you trust
is just selling you a bucket of lies.
Just believe that it's all gonna be OK.
And I know, I know, that it's hard.
