The day

More summer school lectures throughout the day. Interesting stuff.

Fun situation on my way home: A father and his little son were paying in front of me and the kid (about three, I guess) wondered why the guy a the cashier was black. Keeping in mind that there are very few black people in Germany, I guess this is a bit of a surprise for small children. While the guy thought this was funny and explained that he's from Africa and everybody's like him there, the father seemed very embarassed. I suppose I was one of the overly politically correct people. The thing about this kind of political correctness seems to be that instead of enabling people to deal with these things normally, they become paranoid and consider every minority some kind of minefield, trying to avoid the topics altogether. Sort of reminds me of the fact that I actually managed to cause far more embarassment to my parents when I was that age. But that may be a story for another day.

I spent the evening doing my laundry and cleaning my room – including the removal of my CDs, records and books from their shelves and getting rid of the dust. Loads of dust. I wonder where it comes from. Now everything is shiny and clean.

Linky links: Well, considering what I'd like to link at why don't you simply ready today's helping of 2lmc. Saves me a lot of typing work. Particularly funny is Dell's iPod rip-off. Even on the PR photo the screen seems to be rather hard to read. Fun use of Flash for Europe vs. Italy – although some of the bad behaviours aren't limited to Italy at all. CPlot has been updated. Interesting for everyone who wants a quick and powerful way to do 3D graphs. The cool thing is that the author seems to have made all improvements I suggested to him a while ago, and more...

Dell’s FugliPod… Still wondering how a computer company can take in billions of dollars in annual revenue and only divert about 50 cents worth of it into industrial design. Savages.
