Today’s discovery in our department: Our very own library is scanning back issues of journals and such for online access. Not that PDF files full of scanned goodness are the best thing in the world – but they surely are more convenient than a trip to the library.
-
The odd – and bad – thing about this: The library didn’t tell us about that service. Or they did so very timidly. Why? People love anything let lets them do their research without having to leave their desk…

A good read for the cynics. Let me blockquote its truth into oblivion
I think most of the Warbloggers see themselves as the laptop toting Special Forces. They search for the enemy using their tried and trusted early warning systems, RSS, Technorati, Blogdex, Daypop or Trusted Weblogger. They try to destroy their enemy by blockquote boredom and pure linkage, either directly or through innuendo.

I looked into the availability of certain books this week. Why can’t all national branches of amazon just offer the same things with the same delivery times (plus a small fixed constant)? I also pity our American friends, as their amazon seems to be going downhill – full of ads and unsolicited ‘recommendations’. It’s a friggin’ shopping site! I hope we will be spared or – even better – there’ll finally be serious competition.

Very bad news – it looks like we’ll definitely have to move out of our flat in March.
