Playing around with よしみ, my new iPod, and thus a volume with a non-ASCII name is a good opportunity to see how good different pieces of
shit software are as some of them simply break. Sadly, AppleScript, in some parts, isn't part of the 'good' software that can deal with such names in a straightforward way.

An interesting analysis of the disinformation that passes as technical journalism these days. Via John Gruber. Both with a few choice quotes.

We went to see an exhibition of works and teaching in the Bauhaus by Paul Klee today. It is one of three Paul Klee exhibitions in northern Germany. The drawings and instructions were very interesting to see and in some places they really look like mathematics or physics. Also, some of his doodlings triggered the 'I could have done that' reflex. Where the difference between myself on the phone and an artist would be that there is a purpose to the artist's drawings (OK, let's just assume that they don't just pull our legs on that one) and they actually go all the way to fill the whole paper where I'll most certainly stop when I get off the phone.

Yup. Those last remarks weren't entirely serious.

Some of the sheets on display in the exhibition also reminded me of screen savers or other graphics we see in the digital age. He also had a little set of notes on darkening things with a scale that looked very binary.
-
I wonder to which extent Klee and fellow artists have caused the art and graphics we see these days and to which degree working geometrically or otherwise mathematically as is frequently done on computers naturally yields similar results.

Mark Pilgrim says he's trapped in sobriety. I find that a bit sad. Even if he doesn't like it, a good host needs to know where to find a bottle of good wine to accompany a meal. Other things I strange were the oxymoron of an
upscale supermarket
and the implication that you can't buy cigarettes there if it is really upscale
. Why should that be?
-
That last point looks like we're closely moving along the thin border between snobbery and zealotry. While of course a decent store wouldn't sell cigarettes, that is of course because they're cheap worthless items lining the pockets of corporate bastards (i.e. snobbery) rather than because they're for smoking, which isn't evil per se (i.e. zealotry).

Oh, and if local legislation is reasonable, your local pizza delivery place will gladly help you out with a six pack and box of ciggies.

While I am not a big fan of it, I shouldn't forget to have a look at LyX for Aqua. Via 2lmc

Tstst, a Windows-centric cartoon with what clearly is a Mac keyboard.

I'll be going to Berlin tomorrow with Sharidon, doing some sight seeing there with him and visiting as well as celebrating the new year at Claus' place.
-
In case I don't get back here in time: a happy new year to everyone.
