Discussed this with a friend over dinner: What’s a good German translation of the word ‘sleek’ in the way it’s used for shiny gadgets? We couldn’t find a good single-word translation. Sometimes it’s translated as geschmeidig
; but I think that sounds far too 1980s and is much too close to what you’d say about an animal.
An amusing thing about looking this up in the computer’s dictionary was that the very last meaning they give for it, unctuous, is another word I didn’t know. So there was a new word to look up. Which in turn makes me wonder how long a path I could walk along through the dictionary, paved by my ignorance alone.
