I am not a big fan of the whole christmas thing. As it is unavoidable, one needs to try and make the best of it. Which mainly means getting some good cookies (strangely the good Mandelspekulatius only ever seems to be available in the local supermarkets in September at the very beginning of the commercial christmas season) and avoiding downtown from the end of November with its Glühwein stink and the drunk secretaries of local businesses having fun there.
As I’m a sucker for sweets, getting mum’s advent calendar is great as well. Hmmm, chocolate…
Usability-wise that advent calendar is a bit tricky as it doesn’t have any numbers on it. So if I’m away for the weekend, some hard-core counting needs to be done to figure things out.
Counting is not a problem for the additional treat I got myself: a typographic advent calendar. Each door reveals a new letter in a different font. With the inside of the door containing information about the font’s maker and website. And - naturally - this advent calendar will last to the 26th, so we can cover the full alphabet [no ß in there, unfortunately].
All of the greatest hits are in your post: typography, chocolate, and drunken secretaries. All it needs is bacon to be perfect.
Hmmmm, bacon %)
