Obama Day

196 words

So it looks like the U.S. are gearing up for their Obama (marked as a typo by Mac OS X.5.6’s Multilingual spellchecker, btw) inauguration. While we won’t set hopes too high - the guy’s just a populist politician and the situation he’s inheriting isn’t exactly rosy, this will at least mean that they’ll send Dubya back to where he came from.

Eight years ago the U.S. - a country which according to their own judgement quite likely invented democracy - embarrassed themselves by ‘electing’ the guy in a way that not only made their ancient electoral system look bad but also would have made any third world kleptocrat proud. But one has to admit that Dubya exceeded expectations.

If you had asked me to put down numbers back in 2001 for how much debt the guy would shoulder on ‘his’ people, how many humans he’ll kill and torture and to which extent he’ll manage to spread intolerance and stupidity in his country, I - even with my well working cynicism - would have underestimated every single one of them. Respect, Mr Overachiever!

And for the future, good luck to Mr Obama, good luck to the world.

Pretty decent summation. I have no hopes for an Obama administration, but I guess that says a lot about my politics; Anarcho-Cynicism.

..this will at least mean that they’ll send Dubya back to where he came from.

I’m not sure they would accept him.
