Panasonic Walkman

After my first Walkman broke, friends got a new Walkman for me. This was especially cool as a friend of a friend brought it straight from Japan – meaning that I ended up getting a Walkman that would have been really expensive in Germany. (It also meant that at first I had a problem to find a 220V charger for it, but that problem magically resolved itself).

The Walkman hardly larger than a tape itself and it is controlled electronically. It also has a weird Knight Rider style battery level indicator that does a lot of red flickering back and forth before indicating the battery level. The Walkman came with a remote and an adaptor to attach a normal battery to it externally (who would do that today?) if you did not want to use the slim battery that could fit inside the case – or to extend the playing time.

Unfortunately I found the headphones quite sharp and uncomfortable, so I continued to use my old Sony headphones for as long as they lasted.

As I was quite happy with this Walkman – and it is working to this day – I got a Panasonic Discman later on as well.
