A fun thing about our department is that there are these old-school clocks installed. They are all properly wired and must be centrally synchronised in some way. As a consequence all proper clocks in the building do show the same time. They all get stuck at the same time as well if there was a power failure.
Of course all of this could be done better today without the wiring, say by using radio controlled clocks. But for those you’d need batteries as well which presents many new opportunities for failure. The only thing that isn’t synced up to those clocks, unfortunately, is the time on the computer system.
