- Bad
- Going through the 'easy' details of a seminar talk you are going to give and realising that while your intuition on it was right the details are rather difficult to spell out.
- Good
- Managing to do so – up to a 'few facts we'll have to believe' – after only a few hours of discussing those four lines of proof.
- Bad
- Someone having changed the lock at the photocopier room and not telling everyone – and you learning about it the hard way: by having to try, without success, all your keys while carrying an armload of journals. (Naturally those really interesting five page articles come buried in 1000+ page moster volumes.)
- Good
- Seing 'maths for everyone' on the web – along with Cantor set ASCII art. Personally I'd say the slightly more obscure 'take the intersection of all of those' instead of
do this forever
in the description – but that may be harder to understand. (It's not only more precise, but also makes it obvious that the Cantor set is closed. I tend to think that the the Cantor set is a very IT person's thing because every element in the set can be described by a sequence of binary digits.
- Bad
- None of your so-called friends wanting to join you when going out.
- Good
- Having a good time nonetheless with good music being played, including The Strokes' What Ever Happened, Wir Sind Helden's Müssen nur wollen and best-of-all The White Stripes' Hotel Yorba (a song that I consider severely underrated and by far not played enough, particularly since every DJ started playing Seven Nation Army only).

I’m (pleasantly) surprised to see the White Stripes got a nomination for album of the year in the U.S. Grammy Awards. Also nice to see Outkast’s “Hey Ya” nominated for single of the year.
