After arriving in Köln yesterday, I went to Bonn to see Jan. With him being, among other things, a cycling fanatic, he had just returned from a 120+km cycling trip with a friend and still couldn't stop talking about cycling afterwards. It's not my cup of tea but there must definitely something to it if you're into it. I also learned a lot about the Alps and bicycles in that day.
This afternoon we had a walk along the Rhine and crossed it using the Rheinnixe, a little ferry going across for a tiny fee, before I went to travel back to Göttingen, where I have finally arrived now. Strangely, I don't think that any of my means of transportation had a significant delay during my journey, that
- took me to 4 different countries – including Germany
- made me use 3 different currencies – bad choice of countries, for that matter
- involved 5 plane, 5 bus and 5 railway journeys
I also did quite a bit of carrying things around
- some bags of Haribo sweets from Germany via Portugal to England - those you get in Germany are better than those they sell in England for some reason, they're not as sweet.
- a box of CDs from Germany via Portugal to several people in England and Norway
- three bottles of wine from Portugal to England and Norway
- a bottle of port from Portugal via Coventry to London
- a bottle of vodka from Frankfurt via England to Portugal
- some clothes from Germany to Portugal only, going back with my parents
- magazines from England via Norway back to Germany
- ditto for pint glasses (for me), Crunchy bars (for my brother) and flapjacks (for his girlfriend)
- Geitost Norwegian cheese from Norway to Germany
- and many more things, yadda, yadda, yadda
A bunch of mail arrived while I wasn't here which I'll have to go through now
