Came home from having a nice pasta dinner with Claus, baked two cakes. A quick post before going to bed. Man and dog seem to be writing about morons opposing parts of the BBC's service. Public broadcasting services rule. They are much more at your service than their competitors. They also serve to represent a country abroad, giving foreigners an insight into how certain events are perceived in another country.

What may be considered a bit strange about the BBC is that their BBC World TV channel actually seems superior to what they broadcast in the UK. My parents have BBC World in their cable channels and I found it to be a good source for world news. So, when I lived in the UK – actually paying them for their job for a change – I was very disappointed to watch the evening news on BBC 1 (or 2), which were mostly UK-centric and rather bad – and don't get me started about the quality local-news source Midlands Today following the main news...

So ironically, the BBC's news are better abroad (or perhaps on UK digital telly) than they are on standard telly in the UK. On the other hand there's no Weakest Link on BBC world, so living in the UK has certain advantages as well...

Very nice discovery: Beyond Brilliance/Stupidtiy. As I like flying, I am pleased to see they have columns on aviation, good and bad. Includes a post on sleeping in airports – even cosy little Bremen airport is mentioned.

I agree to a certain extent in my opinion the best news programmes are Newsnight on BBC 2, the Channel 4 news and the BBC 4 news.

Yes the BBC local news is pretty c**p but spare a thought for those of us that have to suffer ITV’s Anglia news in the East of England, excepting the poor presenters and poor journalistic rigor, until the late 1990s the weather graphics looked like they had been put together with Windows Paint!!

I sort of agree about Newsnight. They have fairly good interviews / comment bits. As do most British media when compared to German media. A more inquisitive culture, I guess.

I don’t think the ordinary news on Newsnight are particularly good, though and it surely doesn’t serve as a quick news roundup for the days when you don’t want to spend 45 minutes just to know what’s going on in the world.

And a big load of pity for your local flavour of ITV.
