Technical problems

180 words

Looks like the problem with Movable Type which I reported yesterday are due to a lack of disk space. Too bad, this blog just keeps growing. Now I moved even more things onto some other server using mod_rewrite magic. It seems to be working, but I'm not sure to which degree it will mess things up in the long term.

Regardless, I'd take the point of view that no matter how dodgy the environment, no software should ever write data where it doesn't belong. It could rather give an error message or even die.

Can anyone point me to a solution that makes Movable Type update a post's page when a new trackback ping is received? This seems to be a problem.

Scott Johnson on the curse of 'always online' and the expectations that come with it. I for my part, set my iChat status as 'Online' most of the time. An obvious reason for this is lazyness. I also dislike the 'auto-away' features as they are unreliable, and it's nobody's business when I last moved my mouse anyway.

This article should help. Doing it is a tricky thing. This is because your pings can time out. It would work out well if they built it into the system. I’m still waiting for MT Pro to come out.

Thanks for the hint.

While adding the few lines of code looks pretty straightforward, I’m not too keen on doing it. Sounds like a lot of hassle to me when doing updates.

Also, our server seems to be particularly slow at times, so the ‘timeout’ problem may actually matter there.
