Nick Hornby's Desert Island discs and him cheating by using an iPod (via 2lmc). I do wonder, though, why no-one pointed to Hornby's 31 Songs on the way. Seems like an obvious thing to do in this context.
Tweaking the 'truth' or multiplying it at least... by letting 'the boys in the field' send pre-written letters to their hometowns' papers. Pretty poor, methinks. Perhaps a hint that even the politicians/military instinctively know they haven't done 'the right thing' and need to cover up.
Too many 'twiddles' above.
Some computer camp seems to have gone on. That guy (, girl or dog? – no, I won't look up names of people who don't manage to put them on their pages within scrolling distance) makes a point on searching I will comment on in the next post.
Another point mentioned there (please note the smugly gender-neutral form I made an effort to choose here) is a 'shootout' between Technorati and Blogdex, pointing at potential new things they could do, such as incorporating spatial and temporal location. I've discussed these points with Scott Johnson a while ago and I hope Feedster will beat those other sites in providing such services. In contrast to them Feedster isn't purely a vanity tool and may actually turn out to be useful – if it hasn't already.
Oh and Doc Searls put up photos of the event: Many *Books. Many middle-aged overweight men. So that's what the future of computing looks like?
The iPod reviewed as being stereophile. Who would have thought – considering that computer-based sound output mostly isn't too good. I guess I'll have to try that for myself one day... you should never trust those magazines, should you? Although this one gave what I'd consider a reasonable review of my stereo, which among many other things states that it has very good engineering done for heat dissipation.
More on the € here, with an article on the use of its name and an old discussion on the symbol itself. That discussion sees many problems such as the € sign not being supposed to be adapted to the fonts it's contained in, but overestimates others such as the € not being sufficiently easy to write by hand.
I found more comment spam this morning. I hope future versions of MT will make it easier to delete those, so I don't have to do install things myself. Strangely most comment spam I got so far were on my post called Special Characters that's more than half a year old by now. So I closed comments there. I hope this annoyance won't make things hard to maintain.
