Just a copy of what I alliterated on Richard's site earlier today:
Mathematicians use programs like Mathematica, Maple, Matlab (well, not real mathematicians, but I'm trying to make a point here...), MuPad, Macaulay or Magma.
Statisticians use SAS, SPSS, Statistica or S (well, or R indeed).
Artists use anything Adobe.
Programmers use Pascal, PostScript, Perl or Python. – Another reason why 'C' doesn't qualify...
We're seeing two patterns here: the obvious one and the one that the difficulty of linking to a particular product is proportional to the size or perceived moronicity of the company selling it.
