Simple question: What's you favourite Unicode character? Here are some of my favourites: [Requires you to have some font containing those characters for full enjoyment.]
☃ SNOWMAN, U+2603. It's quite cute in some fonts, Hiragino Mincho, say. Apparently it's the sign for snowy weather. Definitely a must-have for a decent font.
〠 POSTAL MARK FACE, U+3020. The Japanese postal mark (〒), decorated to be a face. Nice one.
⌘ PLACE OF INTEREST, U+2318. This was formerly called COMMAND KEY, for the obvious reason. But it's also used to designate sights on traffic signs in some countries.
ﷺ
ARABIC LIGATURE SALLALLAHOU ALAYHE WASALLAM, U+FDFA. This is the latest addition to my collection. Steffen pointed it out to me yesterday when we were discussing some UnicodeChecker related things. Not only is this a very pretty character, it is also the one with the longest decomposition – consisting of no less than 18 characters, included three spaces: صلى الله عليه وسلم.
A fun fact for Mac users in this context may be that dragging that character to the desktop will give the text clipping with a LTR file name you see here.
fi The fi ligature has been my long-time favourite, particularly in italic fonts it is extremely pretty. I like looking at them and drawing them.
Addendum: Browsers don't seem to deal too gracefully with the spacing around the floats in this entry. I hope that's not my fault.
