A misled article in The Guardian onteaching atheism. Of course there is not much to be taught in terms of atheism itself. Still, teaching atheists in an unbiased way about the history of religions and their role in our life today would be helpful. I don't think any religion-related classes in school should be in favour of a certain religion but rather describe it, so you can 'appreciate' its influence on the world we live in. That's precious information which sometimes helps understanding things.
Commentary in The Guardian starting with Daleks and ending with xenophobia. It also urges me to ask how the royal family would do at Robot Wars.
The Register on anti-virus spam being sent to us by virus companies. I may want to add to their points that all the messages I have come across so far are in English only. Vastly inadequate for the ever growing audience of internet users, I'd say.
Die Zeit has a poll on how 'typically German' your fears are. Turns out that I'm an optimistic person and my fears are 0% 'typically German'. Perhaps not correct but definitely sweet.
I also read that apparently our paranoid friends from the U.S. won't let people take their bags or mobile phones into their consulate when applying for visa. Because of fear of bombs, of course. Neither do they provide facilites to store your stuff, which is a bit rude, considering that many people have to make a day trip out of going there. Apparently a nearby kebap shop will look after your belongings for free – and happily sell you a kebap when you leave them or pick them up again.
