Axiom of Choice

155 words

I was tempted to name this Lucky number seven – but the corresponding Moldy Peaches song unfortunately is called Lucky number nine. A little piece in The Guardian about choice and the miseries attached to it.

To opening hint of always choosing number seven if in doubt is quite interesting. Particularly when considering that number seven tends to be a good song on CDs (the 'track 7 theory') – as well as track number 2 ('track 2 theory') and – secretly number 3 ('track 3 conspiracy theorey'). iTunes is your friend: just make smart playlists for the corresponding tracks.

At least the track 2/7 theories could be explained as follows: You don't want to put your best song right at the beginning, but people may become bored if it's not reasonably early on. Then take an evenly split ten track LP and tracks two and even are almost the canonical choices.
