... just a few billion to go: I just improved my new flatmate's life by doing the iTunes thing.

iTunes for Windows that is. It also meant that not a lot of convincing was needed as I met a anything is better than Windows Media Player attitude. While it was soothing to see the trusty iTunes amidst the other Windows programs, I didn't think the experience was great. To begin with, somehow we downloaded the English version rather than the German one. There weren't any warnings about that. But no biggie there – he didn't mind.

Then, most of his music couldn't be added to the library. Being all used to Windows he clicked away the error message too quickly to see the reason for that. After another attempt, the reason turned out to be that his music was in WMA format (I thought nobody uses that) and that the version of Windows Media software on his computer (which is just a couple of weeks old) couldn't do the conversion because it was 'too old' and further downloads were needed (apparently a common situation for said software).

It looked like iTunes now defaults to not reorganising your files when newly installed, btw. I think this was different in the first incarnation of iTunes for Windows and people complained about it. Everything else looked just like the Mac version (except for the fonts looking dreadful and the menu bar being in a strange place.

Library sharing didn't work right away either. But I suspect that was due to the fact that the Windows computer liked dropping the 'connection' once a minute or so – odd. Eventually it worked. Like it should.
