Public holiday today. My parents came over to look at the new flat. They brought and made some fresh asparagus which was nice.

Ever fancied using Zapfino in TeX? Sounds like a 'best of both worlds' thing. I may not have any actual use for it now, but being able to use Unicode and advances (non-TeX-specific) font gimmicks from within TeX is a good thing.

This reminded me of the bit of advice lovely Dogbert gave last year:
Dance like it hurts. Love like you need money. Work when people are watching.
It's one of the few sites where I consider the banner graphic at the top pretty enough to justify the waste of space, btw.

I've said it before and I may say it again – The White Stripes' Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground video is absolutely brilliant.

I started reading Jonathan Franzen's essays in How to be alone and I am enjoying them very much so far. Very good observations eloquently presented – touching the topics of being alone and privacy. One essay is on Alzheimer, which very much reminded me of my grandmother.

The whole 'being alone' in the sense of being distant from society thing reminded me of the topics of Michel Houllebecq's novels which Richard brought up recently. I really didn't like those, though.
