Some people like things left unspoken, I prefer to have it out in the open.
Hmmm, what can I say. I stumbled across Art Brut and was a bit torn at first. Let’s say I’m not a big fan of people who speak rather than singing. And while I tend to fall for it, I don’t really like people exploiting their British accents to fool people like myself. In short, I won’t ever be a big fan of Mike Skinner (although he deserves unexpected sympathy for decorating his a But I am digressing slightly, so I continue…
which I’ve always been tempted to use as a subtitle for theses pages).
But I am digressing slightly, so I continue: Fortunately, Art Brut are more ‘music’ despite the singing being very close to talking and their lyrics are quite cool. Both stylistically and for the topics they cover. This starts with the album’s (and also one of the songs’) title Bang Bang Rock & Roll, written in italics and with a nice ampersand and doesn’t end with My Little Brother (Why don’t our parents worry about us?
or Modern Art (makes me, want to rock out
).
I don’t like the CD’s first song, Formed a Band, which also seems to be a single, too much, instead my favourite is Bad Weekend:
Haven’t read the NME in so long, don’t know what genre we belong.
Popular culture, no longer applies to me. (4x) It’s tough at the top, the fashionista, text in Topshop, text in Topshop. Sometimes it’s hard to stop, when your heart is set on Top Of The Pops, Top Of The Pops.
I saved up so much money to spend, all I can afford is a bad weekend. And there’s no reason for staying in, there’s nothing on the television.
Bliss! New words like ‘fashionista’ and the brilliant slogan ‘popular culture, no longer applies to me’ along make this perfect. And as if this weren’t enough, the album’s 33 minutes leave enough space for more cool songs, including 18000 Lira for my ever growing Music By Numbers and the cheekc Rusted Guns of Milan as well as Moving to L.A. Around the World playlists.
But that’s not enough… while I was musing about whether to go and see Art Brut on their upcoming tour, it turned out that they’ll perform at Haldern this weekend as a replacement for another band. I’m looking forward to that.
ART BRUT- TOP OF THE POPS! ART BRUT- TOP OF THE POPS! ART BRUT- TOP OF THE POPS! ART BRUT- TOP OF THE POPS! ART BRUT- TOP OF THE POPS! ART BRUT- TOP OF THE POPS! ART BRUT- TOP OF THE POPS! ART BRUT- TOP OF THE POPS!

Eddy Argos being scary is what I initially thought as well. But when seeing them play live he was absolutely fantastic and not scary at all!
