Television. You love it. You hate it. And most of the time you ignore it. There may be specific films or documentaries on from time to time which you specifically want to watch, but mostly things just drift by and I find it hard to be enthusiastic about it. Yup, it’s good to watch the news but having read the paper and a bit of the internet, I can do without. Yup, it’s brilliant to watch another Simpsons episode, but missing one isn’t a problem either. And so on.
Yet, there was a single show which I – and some but not all of the flatmates – watched almost religiously. I was Sarah Kuttner’s show. It’s not that you’d miss any particular content when not seeing the show. But it was great to watch it for the sheer joy of seeing it. Silly jokes, disarmingly straightforward interview questions which more often that not made the starlet interviewees look stupid – but not because of the questions being evil but because of their mindsets having been so badly twisted by PR work that they can’t actually answer a question. And, as late night shows have it, there was a band playing each time as well. With a particular preference for Adam Green.
And guess what? MTV cancelled the show. And we saw the last episode tonight. That was quite sad. And I’m going to miss Sarah and her show.
We are off to the Haldern festival tomorrow. While the weather is definitely better than last year (which isn’t hard), there’s still a good chance of rain for the weekend. Fingers crossed that it won’t be too bad! The shopping has been done, we even have fruit and a disposable barbecue, the car has been mostly packed, so we have a good chance to manage an early start and to make it there by noon or so.
Vaguely related question that will be answered after I return: What do you see in this photo? What is it used for? And why?
Stencils! Stencils that are used for uhhhh… stenciling stuff! :-)
Not quite right, but not too far either :)
And here’s the answer :)
