All right I learned more about earthworms today than I ever wanted. For example if you want to study stuff about food chains you’ll have to analyse them. To do that you need to catch them first.
How to catch an earthworm? You make mustard water - apparently they have mustard powder at the pharmacy which people use when they have a cold -, frame a small area of the ground and then pour it on there. Apparently earthworms hate mustard so much that they’ll literally come shooting out of the ground shortly after. If you picked a suitable location for that little trick you can easily get a hundred of them on a square meter.
Then they’re killed with alcohol or something, and finally chopped and mushed up to make them suitable for spectroscopy…
Isn’t science fun?
