power of the Hanse was focused on trading in the Baltic sea, the countries
of which were like that incorporated into the market of Western Europe.
The golden times of the Hanse was between 14th and the 15th century. The
member cities (Bremen, Lübeck, Hamburg etc.) had enormous economical
advantages. After the defeat of Lübeck against the Scandinavians 1536
the economically dominating position of the Hanse members was broken. The
Scandinavians freed from the economical tutelage. Thus the Hanse became
unimportant for the further history.
