After we had basically destroyed our S-Video and audio to SCART adaptor for watching computer films on the telly when setting up for our party a few weeks ago, need for fixing it arose. I tried, even using a soldering iron – people who know me will consider that quite an ironic fact – and failed. Partly because of being bad at it and partly because there don't seem to be good or even consistent instructions on how to do this.
So we decided to simply get a new one. These little bits of metal, plastic and wire tend to be hellishly expensive, but luckily you can usually get them at eBay for around half of what they charge elsewhere. So that was my good deed for e-commerce today (plus ordering 100 CD-Rs for €25 at amazon). I bought a spiffy adaptor that has an extension cord and extra SCART socket, so we can easily plug in a DVD player or other toys as well without breaking things again.
