Part of iChat's prettiness is it's 'speech bubble' interface and the ability to have pictures from your address book for your contacts – or the picture of their choice. Your picture will always be on the right of the screen, that of the other person on the left. So if you have a picture for yourself that is facing left your own bubbles seem to come from your mouth. On the other hand, that's quite rude to the other person as they'll see the speech bubbles coming from your back.
Thus, I mirrored my favourite elk icon for it to face right as a courtesy for the people I chat with. Unfortunately, iChat's 'thinking...' display was a bit rude afterwards.
Notably nice in Ichat as well... the possibility select and crop the image displayed for yourself, and a menu item to revert back to traditional iChat 1 in case you don't like the iChat AV beta.
