Just an odd thing that has bugged me for a while now – and equally made people feel compelled to declare me a crazy person when hearing it: Many shoes have rubber soles. And that rubber seems to be increasingly soft. While this may actually be enjoyable or considered 'comfy' by some when walking – I find it rather annoying.
Not only does it reduce the 'feel' you have for the ground you're treading on. That's not too bad, actually. But it makes riding a bike much less efficient. Which is logical, as you'll always have to squeeze the sole a bit before the force is transferred to the bike's pedal.
This of course means that different shoes allow you to go faster with the same effort – or at the same speed with less effort.
Move on – there's nothing to see here.
