A recent German film with a number of young actors-du-jour apparently known as Play it Loud! in English. And it reminds me of 24 Hour Party People. Not because of its style but because its about a music scene I don’t care about: München in the early 1980s with Neue Deutsche Welle coming up and Harry loving it so much that he wants to bring that music to town by organising a big gig with his heros, the influential DAF playing and some local bands, including his friends’ being support bands.
A great idea, a lot of enthusiasm, a great way to forget about his job as a bank clerk. And a plan that turns out to be fiendishly difficult, first to get everything organised, then to pay for it. In the end it all works out and goes horribly wrong… waste your youth.
Sorry for off topic but it’s interesting, that one of the actors in this film is Robert Stadlober. He was starring another film, Summer Storm, which I saw just a week ago. I have to say that it was the best German film I’ve seen since Goodbye, Lenin.
